 State Supreme Court Composition as of March 17th, 2021  There are several State Supreme Court vacancies open since the start of the 2021 legislative session. Below I will be doing a short dive into each vacancy and the switches on each court. __________________________________________________________________________________ Starting in order we have Alaska. Currently, Joel Bolger (the Chief Justice of the Alaskan Supreme Court) is set to retire on June 30th, 2021. As of March 3rd, 2021 he has not changed his mind about retiring.  Alaska uses a non-partisan nominating commission that chooses 7 judges from applicants across the state and presents them to Governor Mike Dunleavy (R) who will then chose a judge from that list. The State of State Supreme Court Vacancies in Idaho - March 10th, 2021 Idaho recently released its 9 candidates for the upcoming vacancy on its State Supreme Court by Roger Burdick. Below I should be going through each candidate, their political leanings and who is more likely to be picked from the 9. Idaho Supreme Court Applicants 1) Kimmer W. Callahan is a lawyer in private practice at the firm Callahan & Associates, Chtd. which primarily works in estate planning and trusts in the state of Idaho. He also practices in VA Benefits and elder law as well. He originally is from Colorado and got his degree from the state of Idaho and is one of five certified to practice EPLS. He lives in Kootenai County, which is a predominately Republican as it voted 70.2 percent R to 27.2 percent D in the 2020 election.
